Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader and Viewing PDF Files
Many files included with QuarkXPress™ or QuarkXPress Passport™ are in Portable Document Format (.pdf). To view them, you must have Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 3.0 or later installed on your computer. If Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or later is not installed on your computer, you can download a complimentary copy from Adobe’s Web site at http://www.adobe.com, or follow the instructions below to install Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.01 or Acrobat Reader 4.0 from a QuarkXPress 4.1 or QuarkXPress Passport 4.1 CD-ROM.
NOTE: Acrobat Reader 4.0 does not run on non-Power Macintosh computers or Windows NT 3.51. If you have a non-Power Macintosh computer (also known as a 68K Macintosh), or if you use Windows NT 3.51, install Acrobat Reader 3.01.

Minimum System Requirements for Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.01
Mac OS
• Software
- Mac OS 7.0 or later
• Hardware
- 68020-based (or higher) or PowerPC-based Mac OS-compatible computer
- 8MB of hard disk space for installation, plus 4.4MB temporary disk space available during installation
- 3.5MB RAM for 680x0 or PowerPC with Virtual Memory turned on; 5MB RAM for PowerPC with Virtual Memory turned off
Windows and Windows NT
• Software
- Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 3.51 or later
• Hardware
- 386 or faster processor
- 10MB free hard disk space
- 8 MB of RAM (16 MB for Windows NT)
Minimum System Requirements for Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0
Mac OS
• Software
- Mac OS 7.1.2 or later
• Hardware
- PowerPC Mac OS-compatible computer
- 4.5MB of available RAM (6.5MB recommended)
- 8MB of available hard-disk space
Windows and Windows NT
• Software
- Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later
• Hardware
- 486 or faster processor-based personal computer
- 8MB of RAM on Windows 95 and Windows 98 (16MB recommended)
- 16MB of RAM on Windows NT (24MB recommended)
Installing Adobe Acrobat Reader from the QuarkXPress or QuarkXPress Passport CD-ROM
To install Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.01 or Acrobat Reader 4.0 from your CD-ROM, follow the instructions below that correspond to your operating system.
Mac OS
1. Open the “Acrobat Reader” folder.
2. Double-click either the “Reader 3.01 Installer” file or the “Reader + Search Installer” file to initiate automatic installation.
Windows and Windows NT
1. Open the “Acrobat” folder.
2. Double-click either the “ar32e301.exe” file (Reader 3.01) or the “rs40eng.exe” file (Reader 4.0) to initiate automatic installation.
Viewing PDF Files
To view a PDF file once Adobe Acrobat Reader is installed, locate the file you wish to view and double-click the file’s icon or drag it onto the Adobe Acrobat Reader icon. Once the file is open, you can read it on the screen or print it.
